Resume Preparation

A resume should read like a short story, leaving the reader in no doubt about your knowledge, skills and expertise. A resume should inform but not bore the reader – an acceptable length is three to five pages.

  • You only need to provide detailed information on positions held during the previous 10 years.
  • No need to reflect every time you’ve change a job with the same employer. ‘Successively promoted’ to will suffice with holistic skills, contributions and achievements highlighted.
  • Change your resume to match a specific position by highlighting skills and experience relevant to the position, and placing less emphasis on non-relevant aspects of your past experience.
  • Make sure your name, phone details and page numbers are included on the document in case pages become detached. This also ensures you can be easily contacted by the reader.
